Preferred Data Format for the URC

You can save 80% on the startup costs by providing data to the URC in the preferred format. You should contact your utility provider and investigate if they can deliver your consumption information in the preferred format. The data should be placed in an ASCII file, comma separated, double quotation for text data, delivered to an ftp site on the FSEC server on a weekly or monthly basis. The following table shows the minimum required data.

School IDNumberThe 12-digit school ID number assigned by the U.S. Department of Education's National Center for Education Statistics(NCES) to each school. Please visit NCES web site for more details.
Account Number or Service Point ID*NumberUnique account ID assigned by the utility to each meter
Meter IDNumberUnique meter ID assigned by the utility or manufacturer to each meter
Meter DescriptionTextMaximum 80-characters description of the school facility reported by the meter (e.g. classrooms, auditorium, general, etc.)
Service TypeNumberService types are 1-electricity, 2-natural gas
Bill DaysNumberNumber of days of service represented by billing
Read DateDateMeter read date in mm-dd-yyyy format (example: 06-31-2004)
ConsumptionNumberThe actual consumption in kWh for electricity or therms for natural gas
DemandNumberThe amount of demand for electricity in kW if any
CostNumberTotal cost for the service in dollars
* Account Number or Service Point ID* must remain constant in case of meter replacement.
